a. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'NORMAL' (see arrows - above) . . . . note: the 'background' line work does not appear/show-thru . . . . . .
b. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'MULTIPLY' (see arrows - above) . . . . . note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . . but so does the run-over of the applied brown coloring . . .

d. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'SUBTRACT' (see arrows - above) . . . . . for the hair coloring
e. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'ADD' (see arrows - above) . . . . note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . . but does NOT run-over the applied brown coloring . . . and only the line work is colored/shows-thru, which is what I chose for this drawing . . . . .
f. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'MULTIPLY' (see arrows - above) . . . . . for the skin coloring - with the opacity set at 100% note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . .
g. denotes duplicating ' f' ' object/layer (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'NORMAL' (see arrows - above) . . . . for the skin coloring - with the opacity set at 36% note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . . but NOT as DARK . . . .
h. denotes using the 'BRUSH' setting (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'MULTIPLY' (see arrows - above) . . . . . for the eye coloring - with the opacity set at 49% note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . .
i. denotes object/layer (on separate object/layer) with the 'MERGE MODE' set on 'NORMAL' (see arrows - above) . . . . for the lip coloring - with the opacity set at 21% note: the 'background' line work does appear/show-thru . . . . . . but NOT as DARK . . . . in this case I used 3 layers to achieve the shading on the lips . . . .
